A Long Week

The week started off normally. Tobie took Ivy in for her 15 month check up. She is in the 80th percentile for height and 30th for weight and head. Tall and thin I guess. I never would have said she was tall for her age though. Well, as all good babies do she developed a fever in response to her vaccinations. Tuesday, as I was leaving a half day workshop, I get a call from day care, she has a fever of 102. So as you can guess that really means like 100. Anyway, I tried to get mom to pick her up, no answer. Tobie was trying to wrap things up at work, so he really could not do it, so that left me. Luckily it only took about 20 minutes to juggle subs and teaching assistants to get my last two classes covered. And, just as we predicted, when I got her home she only had 100.4 temperature. Not that she did not need some motrin, but they love to make everything a BIG deal! So Ivy and I got to spend the rest of Tuesday on the couch. I took her to mom's on Wednesday b/c she was still fighting a fever and her leg was in pain from the shots. Then I got sick! I actually thought I was coming down with the flu, thank goodness that is not the case. Chills, fever, body aches, sore throat the whole nine yards. Made it to work on Thursday, under much duress. Now I have no voice to speak of to go along with my "cold". So what started as a very normal week, turned very typical very quickly.

On lighter notes...Yea Shelly!!! No more boot for the toe. Walk lightly my dear friend:) I will keep your toe in my prayers:) LOL!

Nothing Really

I really have been bad about blogging...as is painfully obvious. I asked Tobie if he put any new pictures on the computer...And his reply was "Have you taken any" I'm really failing in this mother thing. He was right though, I have not taken pictures in a very long time. And as I sit here thinking about it, I don't know if I could even find the camera. We are headed to the great state of Louisiana tomorrow, so maybe Shelly will inspire me (big job Shelly!) I just need to make sure Tobie finds the camera:)
Other news...I pretty much have decided that I'm done being a teacher. Now saying it and doing something about it is two different things. And I could just be really angry and hurt...I'm sure you are all aware of the fabulous No Child Left Behind Act...Not only are more children getting left behind now (they just end up dropping out because they cannot pass the TAKS,) but teachers are being blamed. I really would like to think that most teachers out there do a good job, knowing that is not always the case. BUT, even the good ones cannot force a kid to study. The solution...take class time to study and practice TAKS questions until we all could puke. Oh, but when do we get actual content in...I don't know, maybe in May after TAKS. I'm bitter, I know. With that, we shall see how the rest of the year pans out.
Many of you do not know, but Tobie will be starting a new job March 4th. Most of you don't know because it all happened very suddenly. He will be working for Jacobs Engineering doing who knows what with the International Space station. It should be a good thing, because if you have seen the Mustang lately, you would be very sad. But with the new job, we can actually afford a new car payment. AND, Tobie could actually take and pick the kids up from day care...lately we just don't trust the 'stang.
If you are a reader, check out the Twilight series. Completely worth not doing any house work to spend the day curled up on the couch reading...Oh, yea right, the kids. Ok. Try when they are asleep. Worth staying up late(like 11, sad I know).

I Will Miss You

Some of you know about my friend Kelly. She lost her battle with cancer at 1:30 Thursday morning. Her funeral is tomorrow...not looking forward to it, because then it is real.

Quack in the Box

I really should not title my post that way...I had my first experience with the HEB walk in clinic, and I was very pleased! Some of you might remember that I said I would find myself a new doctor this year...well its still early in the year, so still no doctor, and I was plenty in need this past week. I developed a nagging sinus infection that I just knew would not go away without antibiotics, and there I was with no doctor. My mom suggested the walk-in clinic at HEB (kudos Mom!!) I left my house at 12:30ish, on a Saturday no less and got home by two. In that time I managed to see the nurse, confirm a sinus infection, shop for our "super bowl party", pick up my prescription and get home. Now that is what I call multi tasking!!!!! Way to go HEB!!!
On sadder notes, Jennifer, my sister-in-law, lost her grandfather this weekend. Jenn, Adam and the boys left this morning at 4am to travel to the valley for the viewing and funeral. Keep them in your prayers.
To continue the sadness...a very dear friend of mine from work, is losing her fight with cancer. She was diagnosed last year while I was on maternity leave...looked like she was doing well...came back to work this year....cancer showed up on her adrenal gland....surgery to remove that...she came back to work again...then a scan showed that it spread to her liver and bones...I saw her at work two weeks ago and today they moved her to a hospice with hours, day, or weeks to live. Its amazing how fast life moves when you are not paying attention. I can not imagine going to work every day and knowing that she will not be back.
Her name is Kelly, and I will miss her.
